So if you look on Google today you will notice the pic below:

This is in honour of the 108th birthday of Otto Wichterle, who is the inventor of the modern soft contact lens. If you read about this man on Wikipedia here, you will find that he was an amazing scientific mind.

Contact lenses have allowed people to enjoy corrected vision without the need for glasses. Today, there are many products to choose from, including dailies, coloured contacts, toric and multifocal lenses. At Binbrook Eye Care, we offer no charge contact lens fits, along with free trials of a variety of contact lens products. Our licensed opticians help you learn to use contacts properly, and always guide you as your prescription changes and you order or re-order contacts.

If you would like to learn more about contacts, book an eye exam, or ask any other eye-related question, feel free to call us at 905-692-7714. We are in the heart of Binbrook, Ontario. If it's out of your way, just remember that we also have the largest selection on eyeglasses and sunglasses in the entire area as well, which is always fun to check out.

As always, we can be found using @binbrookeyecare on Facebook or Instagram, or at binbrookeyecare.ca.

Tips for Foggy Glasses

CBC News had a decent article today, featuring an Ontario Optometrist, with tips for limiting or preventing foggy glasses. We carry the FogBlockers that are mentioned, and they actually do a pretty good job with limiting the fog that settles on lenses, as mentioned in the article.

See the article via the link below:

Back to School for Eye Doctors - new layer discovered in cornea!

Well, it looks like eye care professionals (in particular Optometrists and Ophthalmologists) will need to take a quick refresher course on the cornea. Dr. Harminder Dua of the University of Nottingham and his team have discovered a previously unknown layer in the clear window (cornea) that makes up the front of the eye.

See the full article here: http://www.biosciencetechnology.com/news/2013/06/new-human-cornea-layer-discovered#.UbivLfmG18E

As mentioned in the article, this discovery seems most applicable to the improvement of surgical outcomes.
